Simple Habits to Follow

Most of us want to climb higher and higher at a consistent pace as days go by. Many people want to live a happy and peaceful life. These two kinds of expectations though may seem contradictory, are actually not. Reaching a higher altitude or being happy in life may be complementary and person-specific. There is a common foundation on which both are built. In the words of one of the larger than the life-size figure of the modern age, Dr.Abdul Kalam, the missile man of India, whose persona invokes immortal reverence throughout the world; “You cannot change your future, but, you can change your habits, and surely your habits will change your future.”

Simple habits are the windows through which rays of sunshine enter the entity of self and radiate to our surroundings. What are the simple habits that are common in successful scientists, political leaders, business tycoons, artists, meritorious students, sportspersons and even spiritual gurus? It’s time to ponder upon the simple habits that make a great life.

1. Start your day early with a sense of gratitude and energy:

It’s not getting up and rushing through the daily chores that will help you to take stock of things. It’s necessary to give a little of the morning time to your inner self – to remain calm, to reenergize your mind and nerves, to show gratitude sitting quietly for some time with prayers on the lips, meditating taking a walk in a park, jogging, even hitting the gym or enjoying the realms of yoga are all ways to show gratitude and charge up your inner electrons.

2. Have a healthy breakfast:
Galloping to work, attending a call, with a toast in one hand and a laptop almost slipping off your hand is a complete NO! Science has proven that it is imperative to load your body with the required nutrients before you grill your brain. Eat a healthy proteinous and vitamin loaded breakfast to kick start your day at work.

3. Follow the Pareto principle:
In simple words, the doctrine dictates that 20 percent of your tasks should yield 80 percent of the result. May it be a homemaker, a student, an entrepreneur, a singer or a philanthropist; it is crucial to plan ahead, organize, lay down standard protocol, empower people around you, channelize and utilize resources to maximize productivity. A strategist with smartness intertwined through thoughts and actions is a self-boon. A very viable means is to plan and to set the tone for the next day before you call off the day.

4. One at a time:
Evidence shows that only 2% of people can successfully multitask. So multitasking is a lost endeavour. Prioritize and focus on one work at any point in time. Consolidation and selective disintegration are essential for heightening the rate of success at any work in hand at any point in time.

5. Reading is not an option but a necessity:
Knowledge and information are a powerful tool for the brain, mind, and life. Knowledge and information are not only restricted to matters of the profession but reading on various topics whether nature, culture and people, religious texts, biographies, science, fiction or current affairs. Books are a great way to unwind, relax and introspect. A regular reading habit at bedtime is a natural sedative. It calms the brain and provides the mind with much needed deep sleep before springing up for tomorrow. Biographies and spiritual books are dependable motivators. They help water the grey matter and germinate new ideas.

6. Humility and honesty:
You name a person whom the world bows to or a person who has been quite contented and at peace with achievements or life in general, is a person who is very humble and has his feet on the ground. No one takes anything with him or her as one leaves this world to the abode above, but what one leaves are footprints on the sands of time and memory carved in the minds of people. Humility creates positive waves and absorbs positive rays springing from the hearts of people; whether in the family, from friends, at the workplace, community or world at large. On a daily basis, be humble to the sweeper on the road, the domestic help at your home, the milkman or for that matter even an animal on the road. Honesty begets honesty. If one is honest to oneself, to people and workaround, one can definitely generate honesty in response.

7. Love yourself and learn to appreciate:
Living in a world buzzed with social media interaction in our palms too, makes us get into that vicious cycle of comments and tweeting. Its energy wasted if being used without necessity. Social media detox and involving oneself in self-care whether engaging in a hobby, spending time with the pet, eating something one likes, grooming well, listening to a song or mantra for some time a day is a relevant way to love oneself. Loving oneself and showing love through genuine appreciation to people around us helps us to remain afloat and gain goodwill.

Be there and Live Life with fulfillment!
